PRAYER OF SAINT COLUMBA

May the fire of God’s love burn brightly and steadfastly in our hearts like the golden light within the sanctuary lamp.
This month of October the Sanctuary lamp beside the Tabernacle in Long Tower Church will be lit for all our families and especially those affected in any way by addiction.
Mass for Mental Health- We invite you to our 7.30pm Mass on Thursday 5th October. At this Mass we give thanks to God for positive mental health, and to pray for those who are struggling with mental health issues, and to pray for those who care for them. We will be joined at this Mass by Caoimhe from Human Life International who will lead us in devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus. This will include a talk after 7.30pm Mass, veneration of relic & blessed oil from the Shrine of the Holy Face, Tours, France. BLESSING OF PETS at Long Tower on Wednesday 4th October after 10am Mass (10.30am, at the Calvary outside, safely distanced!). This annual event is conducted in remembrance of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, whose feast day is Oct 4th marking the close of the Season of Creation! Everyone in the community is invited to come along with their pets! For those of you who are unable to attend the blessing, we invite you to post pictures of your beloved pets on the parish Facebook post and they will be included in the blessing!
Our Lady, Untier of Knots Novena commences after 7.30pm Mass on Thursday 5th October at Saint Eugene’s Cathedral and will continue for the following eight Thursdays finishing on 30th November. Do you have some “knots” in your life? Knots of discord in your family, the knots of deep hurts in relationships, the absence of peace and joy in the home. Sometimes our lives may seem one big knot due to circumstances beyond our control when we face health problems. We pray and entrust our specific “knots” to Her loving hands, learning how to let go of that which binds us.
The Holy Family Padre Pio Prayer Group will meet on Tuesday 3rd October at Holy Family Chapel, Ballymagroarty, Derry. Starting with Rosary at 6.45pm, Mass at 7.15pm, and Novena to St. Pio directly afterwards. The priest will bless each person, directly after Mass, with a first-class relic of St. Pio.
Holy Family Parish Prize Draw. 50 Prizes for £50: 1st Prize £10,000. 2nd Prize £7500., 3rd Prize £5000., 4th Prize £2500. Also 46 other cash prizes of various amounts. The funds raised will help pay for the renovations of the church.

Masters in Catholic School Leadership: The Derry Diocesan Catechetical Centre, working in Partnership with Saint Mary’s University, Twickenham, offers the Masters in Catholic School Leadership. This is a post graduate degree dedicated to the professional development and spiritual formation of Catholic school leaders. It is a great opportunity for those currently in leadership roles and those who aspire to, or have an interest in, leadership roles within the Catholic School system. Anam Cara Donegal, the organisation that supports bereaved parents, is holding its monthly Parent Evening for bereaved parents on Thursday 12th October at 7:15pm in the Raddison Blu Hotel, Letterkenny Co. Donegal. This event is free and open to all bereaved parents regardless of the age your child died, the circumstances of their death, or whether their death was recent or not. Ulster Project Derry/Londonderry: Applications are now open for Ulster Project 2024. Teens who are eligible must be: 15 on or before 1st July 2024; regular attender of chapel/church. A written reference from/priest/minister on attendance must be included with application form. A written reference from a teacher to be included with application form. Must be available for all meetings and our USA dates are provisionally from 26th June to 18th July onwards. Closing date: Sunday 15th October 2023. A reserve list will also be held.
