Long Tower Mass Bouquet Cards are now available: A beautiful gift for loved ones and anyone you wish to offer thoughts and prayers for a specific intention such as Birthday, Thank you or Health & Well Being. The recipient’s intentions and loved ones will be remembered at the 8am Mass on the first Sunday of every month. They can be purchased at the Parish Office or Sacristy cost £2 each.

Padre Pio Intercede for Us
Padre Pio Mass for Healing in Mind & Body continues this Monday 30th September at 7.30pm Through the gift of this Mass we will unite in prayer with all who are ill, unwell, feeling isolated and struggling with the pressures of life. We pray to be surrounded by the light and warmth of God’s love to heal us at this time. We hope at the end of each Mass to give a Blessing using a 1st class relic of Padre Pio. The Mass will be streamed via our parish website: www.longtowerchurch.org then click on the link for the webcam or alternatively by logging on to www.churchmedia.tv. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Monthly Mass for Mental Health & Mini Vigil to Midnight – We invite you to our 7.30pm Mass on Thursday 3rd October. At this Mass we give thanks to God for positive mental health, and to pray for those who are struggling with mental health issues, and to pray for those who care for them. After Mass, Adoration will follow until midnight.
A Monthly Children’s Rosary will take place in Long Tower every last Saturday at 3pm. Children of all ages accompanied by parent(s)/guardian(s) are all welcome. This prayer group for children is led by Shelaine and Marcella and in accordance with the Diocesan safeguarding policy.
Blessing of Pets at Long Tower on Friday 4th October at 4.30pm at the Calvary outside, safely distanced! This annual event is conducted in remembrance of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, whose feast day is Oct 4th marking the close of the Season of Creation! Everyone in the community is invited to come along with their pets! For those of you who are unable to attend the blessing, we invite you to post pictures of your beloved pets on the parish Facebook page and they will be included in the blessing!
Our Lady, Untier of Knots Novena commences after 7.30pm Mass on Thursday 3rd October in Saint Eugene’s Cathedral and will continue for the following eight Thursdays finishing on 28th November. Do you have some “knots” in your life? Knots of discord in your family, the knots of deep hurts in relationships, the absence of peace and joy in the home. Sometimes our lives may seem one big knot due to circumstances beyond our control when we face health problems. This Novena reminds us that sin never entangled Our Lady; that Christ gave His Mother to be our Mother, the Untier of Knots. We pray and entrust our specific “knots” to Her loving hands, learning how to let go of that which binds us.
Visit of the Relics of St Bernadette to the Diocese of Derry: The Holy Relics of St Bernadette are currently on pilgrimage from Lourdes to Ireland for the very first time, visiting every diocese in Ireland during September and October.
The relics will visit St Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry, from 2:00pm on Sunday 13th October to Monday 14th October. This very special, once-in-a-lifetime event will provide an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the special gifts and charisms of Lourdes in their own diocese. The Holy Family Padre Pio Prayer Group will meet on Tuesday 1st October at Holy Family Chapel, Ballymagroarty, Derry. Starting with the Holy Rosary at 6.45pm, Mass at 7.15pm and Novena to St. Pio directly afterwards. The priest will bless each person, directly after Mass, with a first-class relic of St. Pio. All welcome.

Catholic Chaplaincy at Queen’s University Belfast – Sunday Masses: The Catholic Chaplaincy re-opened earlier this month in its temporary premises at No. 42 University Road, offering facilities including a Chapel with daily Mass, study space and Cafe. The first Sunday Mass of the semester takes place this Sunday, 29 September at 8pm (with Choir) in the Canada Room of the University’s historic Lanyon Building. Our Annual Dedication of Studies Mass takes place in the University’s Great Hall next Sunday, 6 October at 8pm and will be presided over by recent alumnus, Fr Chris Gault OP. Students, staff, alumni and friends are most welcome to join us as we pray God’s blessing on the academic community at Queen’s for the year ahead.

Drumalis- Pathways Adult Faith Development Programme: The Pathways Adult Faith Development programme for 2024/25 begins on Saturday, 12 October at Drumalis. The programme takes place one Saturday a month from 10 am – 4 pm between October and June. All are welcome. Catholic Mothers Ireland Retreat Day: Join us for a day of Spiritual Restoration, Inspiring Talks, Holy Mass, Prayer and Confession on Loughderg Island, Pettigo, Co. Ulster Project Derry: Applications are now open for Ulster Project 2025. Teens who are eligible must be 15 years old on or before 1 July 2025. For details of other stipulations and an application form please email: ulsterprojectderrylondonderry@outlook.com . Closing date: Sunday 20th October 2024. Ulster Project is a non-funded organisation, so parents must meet the full cost of the project for their teen. (Until the cost and flights are confirmed we can only estimate this, but a deposit of £750 will be required in January). We do have group fundraising events throughout the months prior to travel. Due to the high demand for the limited number of places available, interviews will be held. A reserve list will also be made.
‘Back on Track’ Volunteering opportunity: Can you spare 2/3 hours one morning per week? Back on Track is a primary schools programme that provides support for children needing additional help in Literacy or Numeracy. The programme is delivered, in-person, on a voluntary basis by retired teachers, people who have experience in working in education and people who simply want to give children that little bit of extra help with their learning. The Back on Track volunteer is required to commit to 2/3 hours one morning per week for 15 weeks, but preferably for a full school year. Sessions with the children are done on a 1:1 or small group basis. Induction, support, resources and training will be provided.
