Safeguarding Sunday 18th September. This year’s Safeguarding Sunday Mass takes place next Sunday, 18th September 2022, at 3:00pm in St Columb’s Church, Waterside, Derry. We take this opportunity to thank and pray for those who have stepped up to co-ordinate safeguarding in our church so that we can ensure the protection of children and adults at risk. We believe that safeguarding is an outworking of our faith in a loving and just God – the God who calls us to speak up on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves and to defend the rights of the vulnerable (Proverbs 31:8).
Season of Creation 2022 – “Listen to the Voice of Creation”. 1st September to 4th October (Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi). In this Season of Creation, let us listen to the voice of creation, to the voices of those who suffer the impacts of climate change, to the voices of those who hold generational wisdom about how to live gratefully within the limits of the land. These are voices of the Earth. The global Christian family is called to awaken to the urgent need to heal our relationships with creation and with each other and to encourage our parish communities to do the same, “for we know that things can change!” (Laudato Si’, 13). There is an abundance of liturgical resources for the Season of Creation available at www.catholicbishops.ie.
