The Derry Diocese has invited the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland to conduct a review of safeguarding practice. This review is due to commence with the Safeguarding Sunday Mass on 18th September 2022 in St Columb’s Church, Waterside at 3pm. Everyone is welcome to attend this Mass. The review will continue on Monday 19th September to Friday 23rd September 2022. The Irish Bishops’ Conference have published the National Synthesis of the Synodal Process on www.synod.ie and invite all to read it carefully and prayerfully. The Synodal Process has been conducted across the Church in Ireland from Autumn 2021. The publication the National Synthesis is the fruit of a wide-ranging process of listening and consultation drawing on the syntheses produced by the 26 dioceses in Ireland, as well as those submitted by religious congregations and other interested groups. The National Synthesis will be forwarded to Rome as part of the worldwide synodal process of listening and discernment launched by Pope Francis in October 2021 and which will culminate in the General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome in 2023.
Supporting Catholic Parents: On Tuesday 6th September, there will be a conference on Zoom hosted by ‘The Hook of Faith’. The topic of the conference will be: ‘Supporting Catholic Parents: Sharing the Catholic Vision of Love and Human Sexuality with Our Children’. The speaker will be Fr Chris Hayden, author of the recently published book: ‘A Better Vision: Understanding and Living the Catholic Vision of Human Sexuality’. The conference will begin at 8pm and conclude at 9pm. All are welcome. Blessing of Motorbikes and Bikers: St Aengus’ Church, Burt, Co Donegal (N13. Derry-Letterkenny Rd): Sun 11th September, at 1.00pm. All are very welcome to a blessing for motorbikes and bikers. We will also remember all our biker friends who have died since our last time together: “September 2019, before COVID.” Collection on the day for RNLI. Accord Catholic Marriage Care Service seeking Marriage Preparation Programme Facilitators: Accord Catholic Marriage Care Service is currently recruiting volunteers to train as marriage preparation programme facilitators. Accord is seeking registration of interest from those who have a positive attitude towards marriage in the Catholic Church and the enthusiasm to be part of a team supporting couples who are preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage. Successful applicants will receive professional training and will be part of a team delivering marriage preparation programmes locally in accordance with best practice.
