Diocesan Prayer for Vocations
Lord Jesus Christ, gentle shepherd, you know your sheep, and you know how to reach their hearts. Give to the people of the diocese of Derry hearts that are open to the call of the Holy Spirit. Speak to the hearts of the faithful men and women of our diocese, that they may hear your call to follow you and serve your people as priests, consecrated religious and consecrated virgins. Awaken in them the courage to answer: “Here I am, Lord. Send me.” St. Eugene, pray for us. St. Columba, pray for us. St. John Vianney, pray for us.
The Divine Therapy
“Resting in Centering Prayer provides us with profound healing. To be healed requires that we allow our dark side to come to full consciousness and then let it go and give it to God. The divine therapy is an agreement that we make with God. We recognise that our ideas of happiness are not going to work, and we turn our lives over completely to God”. Fr Thomas Keating – The Human Condition
Fr Thomas Keating was a Cistercian monk and founder of the Centering Prayer Movement, a present-day contemplative prayer method. Fr Thomas guides us to the ‘inner room’ of our heart to help us find what is causing our repeated suffering and limiting us from living more joyfully. There, we can see what is influencing and controlling our behaviour to fill the emptiness that craves to be loved and accepted. However, centering prayer does not encourage the mulling over of the past – instead, it allows us to put our faith in the divine therapy that takes place when we rest in His presence. To discover that we are always divinely loved and accepted.

Annual Service of Intercession for the Dead takes place in the City Cemetery this Sunday, 26th June at 6.00 pm. Please be in position at 5.30 pm. Families are asked to bring their own holy water with them to the Cemetery for the blessing of the graves. At the appropriate time Bishop McKeown will ask a representative of each family to sprinkle their family grave (and neighbouring grave if there is no-one present). There will be no holy water in the Cemetery. Derry City & Strabane District Council, Cemeteries Section, have asked, due the large attendance on Cemetery Sunday, that all able-bodied people park their vehicles outside the City Cemetery Grounds. John Quinn, Cemeteries Manager, has confirmed that only vehicles displaying a valid disabled badge will have access to the cemetery and urged the public to adhere to a one-way system in place inside the grounds.
