Pentecost
“He will give you another Paraclete to be with you forever.”
The word ‘Paraclete’ was a challenging concept to comprehend as a young person. Each Pentecost, a dove, was shown, and flames represented tongues that descended on the apostles, giving them the power to speak in foreign languages. The power of the wind blowing through the house filled me with anticipation of the unknown. Over the years, the significance of Pentecost would become more deeply felt as it expanded the boundaries of the heart and out into my life.
Amazingly, God made all created things interconnected, seamless and endless. For example, in returning Jesus to his side, God responded to his request to send another ‘helper’ who would be with us forever – the ‘spirit of truth.’ This other part of God, his Holy Spirit, continues the work of Jesus to teach and guide us. Acting as a mediator between heaven and earth, He comforts and helps develop our spiritual growth throughout our life. Filling us with truth, knowledge, and understanding of all things. And if we really listen, he loves to remind us of who we really are… other parts of His divine love.
Today, God continues to transform and unify the world’s nations, our communities, families, and us into His glorious body. As Pentecost sweeps through the upper room of our hearts, let us aspire to speak His universal language of love in all our communications. And try not to be ‘foreigners’ to one another but work with the power of the Paraclete to help change the world around us. Let us dream together…Pope Francis

Diocesan Prayer for Vocations
Lord Jesus Christ, gentle shepherd, you know your sheep, and you know how to reach their hearts. Give to the people of the diocese of Derry hearts that are open to the call of the Holy Spirit.
Speak to the hearts of the faithful men and women of our diocese, that they may hear your call to follow you and serve your people as priests, consecrated religious and consecrated virgins.
Awaken in them the courage to answer: “Here I am, Lord. Send me.” St. Eugene, pray for us. St. Columba, pray for us. St. John Vianney, pray for us.
