Christmas Mass Bouquets are now available to purchase from the Parish Office Sacristy or from the Novena Shop each Sunday, cost £2.00. Long Tower Christmas Cards are also available cost is £5.00 for a packet of 12 cards & Long Tower 2024 Calendars cost £3 each or 2 for £5. All proceeds from the calendars will go towards the cost of refurbishing ‘The Calvary’ in the grounds of the Long Tower Church. They would make an ideal Christmas gift especially for those living away from home. Thank you for your support.
Tea/Coffee will be served in the café in Aras Cholmcille after 10am Mass on the first and last Sundays of each month. Everyone Welcome to attend.
Annual Solemn Novena in honour of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Mother of Priests.
Nine Sundays before Christmas in Long Tower Church at 6.00pm, continues this Sunday 26th November.
The theme of our Novena this year “Take the Risk for Christ”- Year of Vocations to the Diocesan Priesthood. Each night comprises of the Rosary, Novena prayer and petitions with a short talk given by various guest speakers and Eucharistic Healing Ceremony with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Our guest speaker this week is Dana Rosemary Scallon who needs no introduction to us here in Derry – a popular personality who became a teenage star by winning Eurovision in 1970 with the hit ‘All Kinds of Everything’. One of Ireland’s best known songwriters she co-authored Our Lady of Knock and has just written Light the Fire, a new song for St Patrick which she will sing after her talk at the Novena. Dana is a former MEP and Irish Presidential candidate. She is married to Damien, and has four children and eight grandchildren. We assure her of a warm welcome and wish her and our Parish every blessing as we continue our Novena in honour of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. We encourage everybody, including those in particular need of healing in their lives to join us.
A Collection towards Novena Expenses will be taken up at the start of the Novena this coming Sunday 26th November 2023. Thank you for your support.
Padre Pio Intercede for Us
Padre Pio Mass for Healing in Mind & Body continues this Monday 27th November at 7.30pm.
Through the gift of this Mass we will unite in prayer with all who are ill, unwell, feeling isolated and struggling with the pressures of life. We pray to be surrounded by the light and warmth of God’s love to heal us at this time. We hope at the end of each Mass to give a Blessing using a 1st class relic of Padre Pio. The Mass will be streamed via our parish website: www.longtowerchurch.org then click on the link for the webcam or alternatively by logging on to www.churchmedia.tv Everyone is welcome to attend.
PRESENCE – THE MYSTERY OF THE EUCHARIST: How many of you feel that our world is in desperate need of returning to faith in God? How many of you believe that if more people could encounter the presence of God in their daily lives they would grow in faith? With this new gift of FORMED, we have an opportunity to grow in our understanding of God’s true presence in the world today. I want to invite you to participate in a video-based study on formed.org called PRESENCE: THE MYSTERY OF THE EUCHARIST. The PRESENCE series will move your heart and give you plenty to discuss as a family or as a group of friends as we prepare for the coming of his PRESENCE this Advent. This study (free of charge) will take place in the Café in Aras Colmcille, on the first 3 Wednesdays of Advent 6th, 13th & 20th December from 5:30pm-6:30pm. Christmas Toy Appeal: Like last year, Long Tower Parish will be a drop off point for anyone who would like to donate toys etc.., to the local charity ‘Free Uniform Scheme’. Shepherding Talent Programme, Aspire to Serve, Inspire to Lead. In partnership with Saint Mary’s University Twickenham, the Derry Diocesan Catechetical Centre is hosting an information session on the Shepherding Talent Programme, Aspire to Serve, Inspire to Lead on 4th December at 3.30pm via ZOOM. ‘Shepherding Talent’ is a pioneering programme in which teaching professionals with leadership potential are challenged to explore their vocation to lead. Aimed at all teaching professionals in Catholic schools, this programme is delivered in the context of Catholic school education. It will be delivered over five weeks, with each session taking 2 hours and the total cost is £250.
