In memory of Ellen McFaul who died on 11th June 2023. Ellen was housekeeper at Long Tower Parochial House for 35years, she was well known, revered and respected by everyone who knew her. She gave a lifetime of service to both the clergy and the parishes she worked in. We thank God for her commitment and all that she did for our Parish. We pray that she is now at rest and being rewarded for all her good deeds in the Eternal Banquet of Heaven. May her soul rest in peace.
We congratulate Fr Con McLaughlin on his Golden Jubilee celebrating 50 years as a Priest in Derry Diocese. He served 28 of those years here in Long Tower parish as curate and administrator. Fr Con we wish you ‘Ad moltos annos’ (many more years) and thank you sincerely for all you did for us and all that you continue to do in the service of God’s people. As a token of his gratitude, Fr Con will celebrate the 6pm Vigil Mass in Long Tower next Saturday 24th June with us. Refreshments will be served in Aras Colmcille afterwards. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Cemetery Sunday: The Annual Service of Intercession for the Dead will take place in the City Cemetery on Sunday, 25th June 2023 at 3.00 pm. Please be in position at 2.30 pm. Families are asked to bring their own holy water to the Cemetery for the blessing of the graves. At the appropriate time Bishop McKeown will ask a representative of each family to sprinkle their family grave (and neighbouring grave if there is no-one present). There will be no holy water in the Cemetery. In accordance with Derry City & Strabane District Council health and safety procedures there will be no access to vehicles to the cemetery from 12 noon to 4pm. Pedestrians only will be given access to the cemetery during this time to keep risk to a minimum. A number of accessible parking spaces will be available for Blue Badge Holders at St Mary’s Church, St Cecilia’s College and Celtic Park. Access to these sites will only be given to vehicles that display a Disability Blue Badge Permit. We encourage those attending to arrive in good time, and to adhere to the advice of the stewards.
We would greatly appreciate co-operation with staff to ensure everyone can have safe and easy access to this time of prayer. The Service will also be live streamed and available to view at www.youtube.com/@CemeterySundayDerry.
