Christmas Message
I hope that the humble and simple scene of the crib will speak to us this Christmas and even change us. It is a scene that again reminds us of our dignity, that we are a people of hope who refuse to consent to a culture that promotes violence and the slaughter of innocents. I hope the crib can reassure us that in the darkness, there is a light that shall never be overcome; God’s solidarity with us, especially in unspeakable suffering and sorrow; in the circumstances in which we find ourselves most vulnerable.
Even if there is no mention of the ox and donkey in the Gospels, I am sure it would not have been a shock to find some animal in the straw of the stable. And as an animal does not have to use words in recognising someone, its silence would have been the most fitting way of being in the presence of the king of Kings sleeping in a trough. As we stare in our own silence into the stillness of that humble home with our memories good and bad and the things we most desire in our life, may we feel the peace we long for and become more humble, more merciful, more peaceful, more loving like God and know that in that vulnerable tiny child, God is indeed with us.
Looking forward to seeing you over the Christmas Season. With every good wish and blessing on you and your families this Christmas. Fr. Gerard Adm, Fr. John, Fr. Peter & Carmelite Fathers
