This Sunday 3rd November our speaker is Rev. Martin O’Hagan who is originally from the Village of Claudy. We welcome him to the Long Tower as we continue our Novena in honour of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. We encourage everybody, including those in particular need of healing in their lives, to come along. The Novena can also be a way of spiritually preparing to celebrate the feast of Christmas and a source of blessing on our parish, our families and all those whom we love.
In Memory Programme
The ‘Do This In Memory’ Mass for those children who are celebrating their First Communion this year will take place on Sunday, 24th November at 12 noon.
Arriving in the church: Usually when we come into God’s house we bow our heads or go down on one knee. This is called “genuflection”. It shows respect and love for Jesus. We genuflect or bow in front of the tabernacle, the special place where Jesus
is present at all times. The tabernacle may be behind the altar or to one side of it. There will be a red light near the tabernacle, called the Sanctuary Lamp. This light tells us that Jesus, the Blessed Sacrament, is present inside. The Blessed Sacrament is another name for Jesus.
Entering the Kingdom
“Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.
What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
The heart holds many mysteries which we strive to seek a deeper understanding of – with the eternal mystery of how to enter the Kingdom challenging all of us. Possibly, we have complicated things by trying to use our minds to locate the entry point into the divine realm – when it is our anointed spirit that holds the key. It feels we are being asked to deepen our faith in God to guide our spirit – to feel and touch His sacred presence within our hearts and share it with everyone around us. Let us not leave it for our time of crossing over but experience the peace and joy of the Kingdom in the here and now. Reference/ further reading: John 3:5-7
