The priest breaks the bread of life before it is shared with everyone. This reminds us of what Jesus did at the last supper, “he broke the bread and gave it to his friends”. While the bread is being broken, we pray the Lamb of God together. The priest prepares to receive the Body and Blood of Christ by saying a prayer quietly. He then takes the bread of life, holds it over the chalice and show it to the assembly. We respond to this invitation: Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. The priest and Minister of the Eucharist receive the Bread of Life. They also receive from the chalice. We go to the table of the Lord in procession to receive the bread of life. We may also be invited to receive from the chalice.
He Saw and He Believed
Down through the ages our ancestors waited; they listened in hope to the prophecies, and for what seemed like an eternity, Jesus came to love and live amongst them. Many witnessed the power of his anointing’s, teachings and guidance – while he prayed that they would be uplifted and begin a new life with him. However, some found the mystery of his divine work difficult to comprehend and doubted the reality of his simplicity. Today we find Simon Peter and the other disciple view the remains of Jesus’s linen wrappings lying in his tomb – what they saw they now believed. Up to this point they could not understand the scripture – that He must rise from the dead. May we resurrect our inner vision of the sacred scriptures – not with the mind’s eye, but the hearts – and truly see His teachings with the sight of love.
