This weekend we say a fond farewell to Fr. Paddy Baker and a warm welcome to Fr. Gerard Mongan. Fr. Paddy returned to his home Parish of Long Tower last year and we thank him sincerely for sharing his priestly ministry with us. We wish him well and we pray God’s blessing on him, that the Holy Spirit will guide him in his new appointment in the Parishes of Burt, Inch & Fahan. Fr. Gerard Mongan has served in Three Patrons Parish for the last six years and is no stranger to the Long Tower having previously served here as a curate. We welcome Fr. Gerard and wish him well and every blessing in his new role. We ask that you remember all the priests in the diocese in your prayers at this time of change.
Diocesan Vocations: We ask God’s blessing on all those attending the “Come and See” Vocations retreat in Drumalis Retreat Centre, Larne, this weekend, as they continue to discern the Lord’s will for them as they feel called to serve the Church as priests of the Diocese of Derry.

SEASON OF CREATION 2022 – “Listen to the Voice of Creation”. The Season of Creation is marked throughout the Christian world from 1st September to 4th October (Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi) and celebrates the joy of creation as well as encouraging awareness-raising initiatives to protect the natural environment. The burning bush is the symbol for the Season of Creation 2022. Today, the prevalence of unnatural fires are a sign of the devastating effects that climate change has on the most vulnerable of our planet. In this Season of Creation, let us listen to the voice of creation, to the voices of those who suffer the impacts of climate change, to the voices of those who hold generational wisdom about how to live gratefully within the limits of the land. These are voices of the Earth. The global Christian family is called to awaken to the urgent need to heal our relationships with creation and with each other and to encourage our parish communities to do the same, “for we know that things can change!” (Laudato Si’, 13). There is an abundance of liturgical resources for the Season of Creation available at www.catholicbishops.ie.
