Twenty- Ninth Sunday In Ordinary Time 20th October 2019
It is World Mission Sunday, a day when our entire Church family comes together for a truly incredible celebration of solidarity. Today, every single Church around the world shares what they can, so that the vital work of the Church and our missionaries can continue. Through your extra generosity, you are offering much needed financial help to missionaries who dedicate their lives to those who are suffering and neglected. From all the missionaries your kindness supports, thank you for digging deeper today.
Mission Sunday is a day for us to reflect on the contribution we, as Irish people, have made to this mission in the past and how we live it today. Pope Francis today is encouraging all the baptised to more actively assume their responsibilities as ‘missionary disciples’. Many Catholics in Ireland, especially among our youth, see little relevance of the faith in their lives. Hence, a challenge for us all as Catholics to take the time to seriously reflect on our faith experience. Mission is essentially faith in action, and to this we as baptised are all called to be committed.

The ‘Do This In Memory’ Mass for those children who are celebrating their First Communion this year will take place on Sunday, 27th October at 12 noon.
Who Does What At Mass? At every Mass you will notice that some members of the assembly have different jobs. We call these jobs ‘ministries’, let’s look at some of them;
The Collectors: The people who collect our gifts of money during the Mass.
The Minister of the Eucharist: The person who helps to give out communion at Mass. They sometimes bring communion to those who are unable to come to Mass because they are sick.
Music: Many parishes have choirs – groups of people who sing at Mass. Their singing helps the whole assembly to pray and we are all encouraged to join with the choir. Some parishes may have people who lead the assembly in singing. These are called cantors.
Discernment Holy Hour: On Thursday 24th October a holy hour will be held at 6pm in Our Lady Chapel in Saint Joseph’s Church in Galliagh. This period of guided prayer is an opportunity for people to take time out and open their hearts to God’s calling. As a child of God we all have been called by name and we will never be happy until we learn to respond to God’s will for our lives. We all need to make pace and time to discern the direction our lives should take as a response to the call God has placed in our hearts.
