In Memory Programme
The ‘Do This In Memory’ Mass for those children who are celebrating their First Communion this year will take place on Sunday, 12th May at 12 noon.
Fasting before communion: We are asked not to eat before receiving communion. This is called “fasting”. This rule has changed over time. In the past people were required to fast 12 hours before mass. Nowadays it is just one hour. We are asked to fast from all food except water in this hour before we receive the bread of life. We do this to help us to be more aware of the gifts that we are about to receive.
The Spirit of Love
“To be sure, it is Christ who is seen, the visible image of the invisible God, but it is the Spirit who reveals him.”
We continue our journey within the joyful season of Eastertide – the period of fifty days between Easter and Pentecost Sunday. It feels we are being blessed with this time to reawaken the presence and understanding of Gods spirit in our hearts. Acting as our divine counsellor, supporter and defender the Holy Spirit intercedes with Father and Son on our behalf. Over the coming weeks the readings from the Acts of the Apostles and John’s Gospel come forward to help us remember and grow our relationship with the Holy Spirit – allowing us to witness his appearance and descent in our lives. May we feel the spirit of love continue to call us forward, feeling grateful for the spiritual gifts bestowed on us to share His word in the world around us.
