Monday 15th July– Feast Day of St. Martha –
Martha’s great glory is her simple and strong statement of faith in Jesus after her brother’s death. “Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?’ She said to him, ‘Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world’” (John 11:25-27).
“Saint Martha, pray for us that we might serve Jesus better.
Help us to overcome our distractions and worries to listen to his words and be present to him this day”. Amen.
Fr. Aidan gratefully acknowledges with thanks the various donations totaling £650.00 to the Longtower SOS Project.

This Sunday, the disciples beg Jesus for one of the most essential aspects of discipleship by saying: Lord, teach us to pray. By turning to the Lord in this way, they model for us the fundamental attitude of prayer. We must recognize our own poverty before Christ and turn to Him. All of our prayer is a gift. St. Augustine captures something of the very deepest nature of prayer when he points out “that even our desire to praise God comes from God”. Pope Benedict XVI says, “Christianity is not a religion of fear but of trust and of love for the Father who loves us.” Our Heavenly Father has many incredible things He longs to bestow on us, should we seek to be united with Him in prayer.
