The four parts of the Eucharistic prayer: The first part of the Eucharistic prayer is called the preface. During the preface we give thanks for the good things that God has done for us throughout all time. The preface ends when we pray the Sanctus, or Holy, Holy. The second part of the Eucharistic prayer is called the Epiclesis, when the priest asks God to send the Holy Spirit to come down upon our gifts of bread and wine. The Third part of the Eucharistic prayer is called the institution narrative, when we remember what Jesus did at the last supper. The fourth part of the Eucharistic prayer is called the Anamnesis when we pray for those in need and those who have died. At the end of the Anamnesis the priest holds up the host and the chalice and offers them to God.
“For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”
Reunions are great opportunities for us to come together with family and friends to reconnect and remember our times together. It can also be an opportunity to reconcile and heal old wounds after years of separation, releasing our hearts from the burden of regret and suffering. The act of reconciliation sometimes requires a mediator and to be really successful it needs the goodwill of forgiveness. As we continue our Lenten journey let us pray for the mediation of Jesus and the manna of forgiveness to reunite with our beloved Father. In receiving this divine food may we feel the relief of absolution to go out and become messengers of reconciliation – no longer feeling the pain of being lost – only the joy of being found.
